His breath was hitting the ground as Jake hid on his stomach underneath the SUV his parents left in the driveway. The creatures were out there, hunting instinctively as any natural predator losing its prey would. Jake waited, knowing that any movement along the rough concrete would send the vibrations up to their ears letting all hell break loose once more, but no, this wasn't hell anymore he thought, hell was a place where sinners would lay screaming for all of eternity. This was much more than that and he had to keep pushing on to see the end. After what seemed to be hours, but only mere seconds, the apparitions disappeared back into the house where the darkness waited. Jake crawled out from underneath the car and stood there rubbing his head, trying to wake up. At the same moment he stopped. The calls of dogs or birds or even insects were distant. Everything in the surrounding area was quite, only the ringing of his ears was audible. He walked to the edge of the driveway and slowly turned his head towards the onslaught of humanity begging for his attention. Anarchy in all its beauty. The streetlights were flickering with dying power, quite feet were scuffling in a mad rush around the street, children screaming inaudibly, everything was silenced. Jake looked to the skies and and couldn't believe his very eyes. Red clouds came swirling over the horizon casting all the land under it in a unique shade of light. The speed of them bedazzled everyone standing on the street. The tears of the children stopped. The feet stopped moving. Everything stopped except the water in the sky.
"What the fuck is that?" A distant voice exploded into the air interrupting the silence. "Is there ANY scientific explanation for this," a grown man cried out with udder fear in his voice.
Jake moved forward, foot after foot, watching the clouds as they flashed within lighting the surrounding darkness with its magical glow. Everyone marveled. The sound of thunder came crashing from above. It began to rain. Not normal droplets of rain, but rich deposits of blood. It felt ultimately heavy falling across his hair and body and that is the moment that anarchy reigned supreme once more. The adults screamed, grabbed their kids and hopped into their cars. Garage doors crashed open sending debris across the street and as all this happened Jake continued standing in the same place watching the windows. They hide in the windows, in the shadows, waiting. "They are essentially us," Jake said aloud, observing them, observe him. A quite ticking slowly formed in his head. "Tick, Tock, Tick, Tock, Jake Matthews, we've found you..." He noticed the windows painted with blood splats. He saw them looking at him with their soulless black eyes, he knew exactly what was going to happen and thats when he heard the scream. Down the street.
"MARY!" He ran as fast as he could passing the houses to where a teenage girl stood crying in the middle of the street and at the second...
